Richard Clegg was the son of Robert and Alice Ann Clegg of 37, Fishwick Rd, Preston.

A month past his 19th birthday, on 29th September 1914 Richard enlisted in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Preston. He was posted into the 10th Battalion and given the service number 16762.

Richard had been working as a weaver and had no previous military experience.

On 31st July 1915, the 10th Battalion sailed for Boulogne.

On 4th November 1915, whilst the Battalion was in the trenches at Hannescamps, it was reported by the 49th Field Ambulance that Richard Clegg had died from wounds.

On 9th December 1921 Richards mother, Alice took receipt of the British War and Victory medal her son was issued. His 1914/15 star would have been sent earlier.
