John Fowler Swindells was born in Hollingworth on 19th April 1881. He enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment on 6th November 1916. At the time he was living in Glossop, Derbyshire. He was given the service number 30540.

It is not known when he sailed to France, but once overseas, John was transferred into one of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiments’ Territorial battalions. His 1917 style service number being 235041

On 15th November 1918, John was discharged from the Army as wounded. He was issued Silver War Badge number B42970.

Unfortunately his service papers have not survived.

John Fowler Swindells died on 1st June 1954.

*Author note: On his MIC and SWB record his surname is recorded as Swindell.
