Private Leo Catterall

Civilian Occupation: Insurance Clerk

Leo Catterall was 38 when he died in Belgium on 31st July 1917.

His sacrifice is recalled at BUFFS ROAD CEMETERY and he is recorded in the Chorley Memorial Album in Astley Hall on page CMB/II/40b.  He is also recorded on the Civic Memorial.  He attended St Joseph’s Church,  Chorley.Catterall 1

Notes of his life and service include:

Enlisted 24th March 1916, and served in France and Belgium. Wounded September, 1916. Died 31st July, 1917.

The Chorley Guardian photograph of 1/9/1917 and article of 25/8/1917 give age, occupation, and address as Harper’s Lane.

Leo Catterall married Mary Alice Catterall by Registrar in Chorley in 1916. [Lancashire BMD]. The Register of Soldiers’ Effects notes the name of his widow.

Nathan Finch married Mary Ann Catterall by Registrar in Chorley in 1889.  [Lancashire BMD].

Leopold Catterall’s birth was registered in Chorley in 1879. His mother’s maiden name was Lyons.  [Lancashire BMD].
