31217 PTE. E. G. RONSON. L.N.LAN.R
The following research was completed and submitted for inclusion by Steve Wilson. Thank you.
Ewart Gladstone Ronson was born in 1899 at Singleton near Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire and was the seventh of twelve children born to John and Betsy Jane Ronson. John Ronson worked as a railway platelayer and the family resided at Church Road, Singleton.
Ewart Ronson worked on a poultry farm before military service.
Ewart Ronson’s service record has not survived and the only surviving information comes from the Preston Guardian of the 30th November 1918 which states he was called to the Colours when he was 18 years old and served initially with the East Lancashire Regiment as Private 40334.
Ewart Ronson went to France in August 1918 and transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment serving as Private 31217 with the 1/5 Battalion.
He died aged 19 years on the 7th December 1918 at Malassia Monastery, France four days before the Armistice. The CWGC register states he died of heart failure.
After the war John and Betsy Ronson received their son`s British War and Victory Medals that he was entitled to along with his memorial plaque.
Ewart Ronson is remembered on a bronze memorial plaque housed in St Anne’s Parish Church at Singleton.
Ewart Gladstone Ronson is buried at Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.
