poppyOn this day one hundred years ago one pre-war regular soldier of the 1st Battalion, The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment was killed in action (KIA) in France.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.


 

Private John Darcy; Born in Stackstead in about 1880, lived in Blackburn and enlisted in Preston on 24th April 1899. Served in South Africa and Malta with the Mounted Infantry. Landed in France on 27th August 1914. Reported missing on 17th October 1914, later to be presumed killed on this date.
