Photo: Private Lance Ingham
The man in this photo postcard is somewhat of a mystery. The card is titled ‘Private Lance Ingham’ ; yet, I can find no reference to this man having served with the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

What do these fellows mean by saying ‘ I’ve done my bit’? What is their ‘bit’? I don’t consider I’ve done mine yet.

This man looks exactly like my grandfather Jack. What year was this? Jack died in 1969 and this man must be a relative. they could be the same person, the resemblance is so strong.
Hi James, I don’t know the year sorry. It would make sense to be your Jack as there wasn’t anyone named Lance Ingham in the LNL as far as I know. Regards, Paul
I found a record for a Lance Corporal S. Ingham who died at Galipoli and was in the Lancashire Fusiliers 1st/6th Bn. Perhaps Lance was not this man’s name after all?
‘Jack’ was actually C.W.Ingham. The resemblance is striking though.
I also believe there is another photo in the public domain of Lance Corporal S.Ingham listed as, “Unknown Soldiers, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, Preston. It is on the website British Army Ancestors – A Photographic Archive, on their homepage! https://britisharmyancestors.co.uk/
I was studying the “Unknown” portrait for a likeness of somebody else so when I chanced upon your photo and discussion above, I believed, without a doubt, it was the same person.
Paul, if you are in agreement, could you please do all that is necessary to put the two together. This is not my field of expertise at all. Kind regards, Jenny
